Carer's Allowance under threat

In the UK, where we still have a vestigial welfare state, there is a paltry means-tested Carer's Allowance.

Now it is under threat.  But it has been shown that the contribution of all the carers saves the country a staggering £119bn.

There's a comment on this from the excellent charity Carers UK here.

  1. Yes I heard this on the news yesterday and I could not believe it. Mind you, I am wondering if it is the old political tactic of 'let's announce some bad things but make one of them untrue, so in the future, when we say we're not doing that one, it won't look so bad on us'
Carer's allowance is so low. I can't believe it. I thought it was untouchable. It seems there is no limit to what they will do to claw back funds from the least well off.

  2. careers allowance is definitely something they shouldn't be lowering and it's something that is a great help to the country. I hope they don't lower it as careers already do so much for so little.
